This multiple vintage blend of ZD Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was created using a solera style system. Every ZD Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon produced is married into this one wine. Bright dark ruby. Sweet, superripe aromas of raspberry, plum, black cherry, tobacco, toffee and game. Like liquid velvet in the mouth: sweet, voluptuous, seamless. Barbi Brunello di Montalcino
Made from 100% Sangiovese grapes, this Brunello di Montalcino has a really interesting mix of aroma vs. palate. At first the nose reveals roasted meats, toast and ripe concentrated stewed prunes. Then you taste the intense ripe cherries, plums and spices and then a bit later chocolate, more spices and black pepper.
Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon
Caymus hits the mark for rich, lavishly oaked Cabernet Sauvignon with bold cassis, black cherry, loam and spice flavors that often verge on sweet. These wines offer lush texture along with considerable early appeal. The expensive Special Selection is made from the best lots of Cabernet and is aged in a somewhat higher percentage of new French oak than the Napa bottling. At a separate facility in Monterey County, Jon Bolta oversees the wildly popular Conundrum, a secret blend generally consisting of varying amounts of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Muscat, Sémillon and Viognier. Ridge California Montebello 1998, 1999, 2004
In most California vineyards, yields were cut by a cold, rainy spring. At Monte Bello, where it was colder still, flowering and set were put on hold. When summer finally came, the clement weather allowed a perfect set. Even after severe thinning, yields were two and a half tons per acre, equaling 1997's record. We harvested the separate parcels from the end of October through mid-November, as they ripened. In this vintage, fermentations destined for in-barrel malolactic were started with selected yeast; the rest — including all malolactics — were natural. Ninety-three percent of the wine was racked to air-dried american oak and — as part of our ongoing comparison — seven percent to the best french oak. In February, we chose twenty-three of the thirty-six parcels for the Monte Bello. A conjunction of intense black fruit, firm acid, and well-integrated tannin has produced one of the finest vintages of an unusual decade. Balanced and approachable as a young wine, this lovely Monte Bello will develop beautifully with ten to fifteen years of bottle age. ~Ridge
Jacob's Creek Johann Shiraz, Cabernet 2001
In 1847, a young Bavarian immigrant named Johann Gramp planted the Barossa Valley's first commercial vineyard, on the banks of Jacob's Creek. His first vineyard was in 1850, and he continued to make wine in his small ironstone winery beside Jacob's Creek until his death at th age of 84. Today you can still walk the historic vineyard site, inspect the original cellar and feel a real sense of place for Jacob's Creek.
Pesquera Reserva 1997
This wine has a deep, purple-black hue, suggesting power and richness. This comes through on the nose, which is laden with crushed and macerated summer berry fruits, with delightful rich nuances of chocolate and spice. There's also an appealing aroma of oak maturation. The palate has a similarly dense layer of spicy fruit, with ripe, firm yet supple tannins. There's a rich, glycerol edge, but it's all balanced out by superb acidity. 16.5/20
